5 ways to brighten your workspace as the days get shorter

Posted by Glenn Cleaning & Support Services, September 23, 2024

As Autumn settles in and the days grow shorter, workplaces experience a noticeable decline in natural light. This seasonal change can affect your employees’ mood, productivity, and well-being. While we can’t change how much sunlight we get, there are practical steps we can take to make the most of the natural light we do have access to as we head out of summer.

A bright, clean workspace can significantly counteract the effects of reduced daylight, making your space more welcoming and helping the team be more efficient and – in short – happier!

Here are five practical tips to prepare for the season;

A bright, clean workspace

1. Clean your windows to maximise natural light

Dust, grime, and streaks on windows can block up to 30% of natural light. We look through the windows in our spaces so regularly that we often don’t notice just how grimy they have become. A window clean is a surefire, instant fix to improve natural light, even on the dullest of days.

As part of our full suite of commercial cleaning services we offer comprehensive window cleaning services for both the inside and outside of your building, including hard-to-reach high-rise windows with special access equipment.

Did you know?

Clean windows not only improve light but also enhance the mood and energy levels of your staff, potentially boosting productivity.

2. Cleaning of Light Fixtures and Ceilings

It’s easy to miss, but the artificial lighting we use in our premises gets dusty and ceilings are difficult to reach so are easily overlooked during the regular ongoing cleaning of a property.

We rely on our lighting to get through the darker months and keeping those hard-to-reach surfaces free of cobwebs and dust is essential. Cleaning of light fixtures improves the output of light and clean surfaces have better reflectiveness making them brighter. And beyond this, it simply improves the feeling in the space.

Glenn Cleaning and Support Services contact cleaning includes cleaning of these areas as part of a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule.

A brighter workspace helps to reduce eye strain and fatigue amongst the team, contributing to better focus and fewer errors.

3. Interior Maintenance and Deep Cleaning

The bottom line is that a really clean workplace is a huge morale booster. While darkening days might dampen the mood of your staff, making sure the place they work in is spotless can really help boost the mood of a team.

Its worth undertaking a deep clean to target every surface, this includes walls, floors, furniture – everything you can see and even those surfaces you can’t. Freshening everything up makes a huge difference. So tackle those finger smudges round light switches and get your carpets cleaned. You’ll feel the difference immediately.

Consider too the organisation in your place of work. Decluttering and improving storage can have a huge impact on state of mind, improving morale and reducing stress amongst the team.

How we can help

Our contract cleaning services makes the necessity for this kind of deep clean a thing of the past. Our regular cleaning and maintenance schedules target all the surfaces in your business keeping things clean and tidy through the year.

4. Consider Air Quality

Keeping air conditioning units and vents free of dust is a workplace essential, especially as we leave the summer months. With windows closed against the chill, indoor air can become stale and the equipment we rely on the keep air fresh needs to be maintained and clean.

Also consider your use of cleaning products. Eco friendly cleaning products reduce airborne pollutants making the environment more pleasant to be in whilst cleaning is underway.

Consider, too, indoor plants. They help improve air quality and add vibrancy to your office.

How we can help

We offer plant maintenance for air conditioning alongside our commercial cleaning services. Our operatives are also well adept at maintaining your workplace plants!

Did you know?

Better air quality means fewer sick days and a healthier, more energetic team.

5. Exterior Cleaning and Maintenance

First impressions count, that goes for both your workforce and your customers. Keeping your exterior clean and tidy is a surefire way to improve perceptions of your business and the state of mind of people entering your premises.

Pressure wash away dirt, algae, and grime from walkways and building exteriors to prevent slip hazards and maintain aesthetic appeal. Make sure your exterior lighting is all working – replace any bulbs and make sure the fittings are clean.

How we can help

Exteriors are just as important in our schedules as the interior. We offer grounds maintenance as part of our full suite of commercial cleaning services.
