Disinfection Service – Why You Need One & How to Choose Yours

Posted by Marketing, February 11, 2022

Especially since the start of the global pandemic, we don’t need to emphasise the importance of disinfecting our environment to ensure everyone’s health and safety. Businesses across the world have had to think more about how to keep their staff and customers safe during these unprecedented times.

A professional disinfection service is key to keeping both staff and customers safe from pathogens of all kinds. With this in mind, in today’s blog post we’ll take a closer look at what a high-quality disinfection service looks like and why you need one. This way, you can choose the right one for your organisation.

Why You Need Professional Disinfecting Services

You might be tempted to rely on your regular commercial cleaning services for removing most germs and your staff disinfecting their own workstations. However, we wouldn’t recommend this.

Proper disinfection is a specialist service that goes beyond your regular cleaning regimen. Before commencing, your cleaning company will assess what’s needed. They’ll identify areas that pose the highest risk, how often they need to be sanitised, and the most appropriate tools and chemicals for the job.

They’ll also find the best way to work around you so that your normal operations won’t be disturbed. This way, you can come to work confident that you’re in a safe environment.

During this pandemic era, all organisations should have a reputable cleaning company on speed dial. This way, you’re ready when you need one-off disinfection services for potential COVID-19 outbreaks on your premises.

We would also recommend talking to your cleaning company about whether adding professional sanitising services to your regular contract cleaning service is appropriate to your organisation.

Cleaning vs. Disinfecting vs. Sanitising

These three words can be used pretty interchangeably by the uninitiated, but they are different. Knowing the difference can be helpful when finding the right contract cleaning service for your organisation and discussing the services you need with them.

The word “cleaning” usually refers to physically cleansing a surface to remove dirt, dust and more from a surface. This may not necessarily kill germs, but it will remove some of them. It’s also a necessary first step for a disinfection service since disinfectants cling better to a surface free of any dirt and residue.

Disinfecting, on the other hand, relies on products that contain safe amounts of a chemical designed to kill almost all forms of germs and bacteria. These should be used on frequently-handled surfaces such as buttons and light switches, phones, keyboards and more.

Sanitising can refer to cleaning or disinfecting in order to lower the number of bacteria and viruses on a surface. So it’s fair to say this is a bit of a blanket term.

Threats Beyond COVID-19

As COVID variants start to lose steam and more and more people are fully vaccinated, it’s a good time to remind everyone that there are germy threats beyond the Coronavirus. These include things such as E.coli and Norovirus.

Many of these have greatly reduced during the pandemic due to increased sanitisation, so let’s all do our best to keep things that way. Disinfection services help to cut down on sick days, helping to keep your staff healthy and productive.

Antibiotic Resistance

It’s worth noting that arguably the most serious pathogen threat beyond COVID-19 is made up of antibiotic-resistant organisms (ARO).

These germs develop an ability to survive the drugs designed to kill them off and pose an especially devastating threat within healthcare facilities. They can also be dangerous within veterinary and agriculture settings and infect people of any age.

Some of these can live on surfaces for months. This is why organisations that operate in a field where AROs pose a risk need to have a comprehensive and regular disinfection routine carried out by professionals.

What to Look for in a Disinfection Services

When you’re shopping around for the best disinfection service for your organisation, you want to make sure that the provider knows what they’re doing. This way, you can trust that they comprehensively disinfect your premises instead of using the suitable tools and chemicals incorrectly and just for show.

As we already said, in order to properly disinfect a surface, you not only need to use the right chemicals – you need to use them correctly. This means leaving them to sit on the surfaces for the right amount of time in order to kill off all germs.

One of the signs that a disinfection service provider is worth their salt is the use of specialised disinfection equipment and techniques. These include disinfectant fogging services and electrostatic sprayers. They have been developed to eliminate pathogens from all sides of surfaces as well as reduce airborne microorganisms.

Most reputable cleaning companies will have the experience and expertise to carry out an acceptable disinfection service. However, if you’re already having doubts about the quality of your regular cleaning service or have the feeling they don’t know enough about professional disinfection, it might be time to look elsewhere.
